Go Deeper With a Standard Arranged for the 21st Century
It's not 1959 anymore ... and jazz guitarists have come a long way harmonically, melodically and rhythmically. Your instructor, Steve Raegele, unleashed his creativity and produced interesting means to chord-melodize (and execute) All the Things, one of the favorite songs in the Great American Songbook.
Of course, the instructor didn't stop there and also created a neat way to comp on the standard without using a bunch of stock shapes. The most fascinating part is that all of Steve's ideas work, musically speaking, but are not always obvious. All of the chords and voice leading ideas found in this course are of "alternative" nature. Not your typical first choice. Not even your third choice! ;-)
This is where all other jazz guitarists looking at this materials will go:
"Oh my gosh! I wish I had come up with this interesting
set of voicings for going from F#m7 to B7!"
Recovering jazz guitarist, and arranger extraordinaire of jazz standards, Steve Raegele plays composed and improvised music. His debut recording Last Century (which features Raegele's trio with Thom Gossage and bassist Miles Perkin) was released in 2010 to much critical acclaim. He has a long standing association with drummers Thom Gossage (Other Voices) and Isaiah Ceccarelli (Lieux-dits), and has shared the stage with many of the key figures in Montreal's creative music community.

"Hi, I don't think I've ever worked on a chord melody like the one trannscribed here. The voicings are so unique and harmonically rich and complex. It's so beautiful-though not in a cliched way. Thanks for getting this project together ....though I am so glad my guitar has the shorter 24.75 scale!! "
